🎬 WAR 2 – Movie Review: YRF’s Spy Universe Hits Rock Bottom

Rating: ★☆☆☆☆ (1/5)

Yash Raj Films’ much-hyped War 2, starring Hrithik Roshan, Jr. NTR, and Kiara Advani, turns out to be the weakest entry in the YRF Spy Universe so far. What was supposed to be a thrilling action spectacle instead feels like a half-hearted, low-effort cash grab.

Performances:

  • Hrithik Roshan tries to carry the film with his charisma, but even his presence can’t salvage the mess.

  • Jr. NTR, fresh from global fame with RRR, shockingly delivers one of the laziest performances of his career. His energy is absent, his expressions flat, and it feels like he’s just walking through the role.

  • Ashutosh Rana—a powerhouse talent—has been criminally wasted in a blink-and-miss role.

  • Kiara Advani is reduced to nothing more than an “eye candy” prop, with minimal screen presence and zero character depth.

Direction & Technicals:It’s baffling how Ayan Mukerji, who gave us the visually spectacular Brahmastra, has managed to serve up such cheap-looking VFX here. The action sequences—clearly inspired (or rather copied) from the Mission: Impossible series—are not just poorly executed but also badly edited, killing any tension or thrill.

VFX & Editing:Scenes look unfinished, green-screen shots are painfully obvious, and the overall presentation feels rushed. This is nowhere near the scale or polish expected from a big-budget spy thriller.

CBFC Cuts & Controversy:Reportedly, the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) has chopped off Kiara Advani’s bikini scene, which was being teased as a big glamour moment in the promos. While the censorship is questionable, the film doesn’t have much else to offer anyway.

Problematic Elements:The narrative is awkwardly stuffed with pro-Pakistani and anti-India propaganda, which feels completely misplaced in a supposed patriotic spy saga. It’s hard to understand why YRF keeps pushing such angles in a franchise that should otherwise celebrate Indian intelligence heroes.

Verdict:War 2 is a disaster—zero hype, zero soul, and zero replay value. The weakest YRF Spy Universe film by far, it’s a bloated mix of recycled action, dull performances, and cheap technical execution. Even hardcore fans will struggle to defend it.

💥 Final Word: If you value your time and money, skip this one. Rewatch War (2019) or Pathaan instead.
