When Mahavatar Narsimha released on 25th July 2025, nobody expected it to shake the entire box office game. Directed by Ashwin Kumar, this animated Pan-India film came without massive star power, without a huge PR machine, and without fake hype. Yet, in just 18 days, it has rewritten history — becoming India’s highest-grossing animated film ever and smashing records held by both Bollywood and Hollywood biggies.
On the other hand, Bollywood’s cheap, vulgar Korean remake Saiyara, which tried to fool audiences with fake reviews, scripted street reactions, and over-the-top promotional gimmicks, is now nowhere in the race. Its forced romantic melodrama failed to hide its lack of originality and obscene undertones.
And as if that wasn’t enough, a so-called comedy sequel like Son of Sardar 2 — filled with outdated jokes and cringe-worthy gags — was also left gasping for air as Mahavatar Narsimha bulldozed past it at the box office.
A Box Office Juggernaut with Zero PR
Starting with a humble opening of ₹1.75 crore, Mahavatar Narsimha’s momentum picked up like wildfire. The movie didn’t rely on clickbait controversies or fake social media buzz. Instead, it relied on pure storytelling, captivating animation, and strong emotional connect.
Within 17 days, it collected ₹174.90 crore net in India and crossed ₹202 crore gross. The overseas market added another ₹11 crore, pushing its worldwide total to ₹213 crore in just 18 days.
Beating Hollywood at Its Own Game
The animated epic didn’t just beat Bollywood trash — it even took down global animation giants.
The Lion King (2019) India gross: ₹187 crore — Defeated.
Mufasa (2024) India gross: ₹177 crore — Destroyed.
Mahavatar Narsimha is now officially the highest-grossing animated movie in Indian cinema history.
Loved by Kids, Respected by Parents
One of the film’s biggest strengths is its universal appeal. Kids adore the vibrant animation and action-packed storytelling, while parents appreciate the moral depth and cultural roots. Reports suggest that repeat audience numbers are massive, with many families watching the film two or three times in theatres
.
The Final Slap to Fake PR
While Saiyara desperately pushed paid trends and scripted praise, and Son of Sardar 2 banked on mindless slapstick, Mahavatar Narsimha proved that content still wins over marketing noise. Without big stars or scandal-based promotions, it not only recovered its modest budget but also became a historic blockbuster — setting a new benchmark for Indian animation.
If this streak continues, the movie could achieve lifetime collections that would put even live-action mega-hits to shame.
Verdict:Mahavatar Narsimha has given Bollywood’s fake PR factories, vulgar remakes, and cheap comedies a reality check they won’t forget anytime soon. This is more than just a box office win — it’s a revolution in Indian animation cinema.
