Veteran actor and theatre legend Puneet Issar, long celebrated for his powerful portrayals of mythological figures, is ready to enthrall audiences once again with his latest theatrical production 'Ishwar'—written and directed by acclaimed playwright Atul Satya Koushik.
Issar, known for his fierce performance in the 2015 stage play Ravan Ki Ramayan, returns to the epic of Ramayana, but this time as a more complex, humanised version of Ravan—a king, a father, a husband, and above all, a conflicted soul.
“This isn’t the Ravan you know from textbooks. Ishwar reveals the man beneath the crown, the intellect behind the rage, and the emotions hidden behind the myth,” says Issar.
A Ravan With Depth, Dilemma, and Dharma
Breaking away from stereotypical portrayals, Ishwar offers a meditative, philosophical exploration of Ravan’s journey. Puneet Issar describes this version as emotionally intense and soulfully raw, where Ravan’s personal struggles with duty, love, and power are front and center.
“Unlike Ravan Ki Ramayan, which was fiery and confrontational, Ishwar is quieter and more introspective. It dives into Ravan’s relationships—with Mandodari, Shurpanakha, his son Meghnad, and even Sita,” he adds.
The play doesn’t just retell a story—it reimagines the legacy of one of mythology’s most misunderstood characters.
Masterstroke from Atul Satya Koushik
Director Atul Satya Koushik, known for his emotionally nuanced writing, brings every character alive—especially the women. The play gives prominence to voices often sidelined in epic narratives.
“Atul writes women with depth. Mandodari, Shurpanakha, and Ravan’s daughter-in-law all have powerful arcs. Their emotions, strength, and moral compass form the backbone of Ishwar,” says Issar.
Powerhouse Cast and Live Performances
The play features a strong ensemble including Dipannita Sharma, Himanshu Soni, and Amit Pachori, alongside Puneet Issar. Together, they bring a fresh and thought-provoking theatrical experience.
Don't Miss the Performance on 21st June 2025 at Grand Level Theatre! This one-night-only event promises to be a theatrical masterpiece—an intense dive into character, culture, and conscience.
Not Just a Play—A Mirror to Society
Ishwar goes beyond mythology. It becomes a philosophical inquiry into the blurred lines between good and evil. As Issar puts it:
“Sometimes the villain is just a hero whose story wasn’t told right. And Ishwar is about telling that story with honesty.”
