Akshay Kumar returns to the courtroom in Kesari Chapter 2, not as a soldier this time, but as a fearless barrister – C. Sankaran Nair – the man who dared to challenge the British Empire in the aftermath of the brutal Jallianwala Bagh massacre. Directed by Karan Singh Tyagi and backed by Karan Johar's Dharma Productions, this historical legal drama is both a tribute and a ticking time bomb of emotion and power.

Based on the book The Case That Shook the Empire by Raghu and Pushpa Palat, the film chronicles Nair’s relentless pursuit of justice for the hundreds slaughtered in Amritsar in 1919. Akshay Kumar, in one of his most nuanced performances in recent years, plays the lawyer who stood alone, while R Madhavan as Neville McKinley – the sharp British counsel – enters mid-way like a storm, flipping the emotional scale of the film with his commanding presence.

🎬 The Emotional Highs

The first half may test your patience, setting up the context slowly, but the wait is worth it. The Jallianwala Bagh reenactment scene is haunting, masterfully done, and will leave the audience numb, teary-eyed, and enraged. Post-interval, the film shifts gears, becoming taut, fast-paced, and thoroughly gripping.

🎶 Music & Climax

The songs, especially the soulful “Zakhm-e-Waqt,” blend beautifully with the narrative. But it’s the climax – a fiery courtroom monologue by Akshay, supported by brutal flashbacks of British atrocities – that punches you in the gut and leaves your throat dry.

Full credit to Karan Singh Tyagi for keeping the storytelling historically grounded yet cinematically powerful. And to Karan Johar, for investing in a film that doesn’t play to the gallery but to the soul of Bharat.
